Domain scams continue, this time from SK Holdings Company Ltd.
I’ve written about several domain-name scams before, such as the Century Net Group Stocks Limited one, the Karl Fischer one, and the Asia Domain Name Registration Limited one.
Going by the number of hits to my blog every day from people searching the Internet for ‘Karl Fischer,’ that one is still going strong.
Here’s the latest one. Don’t be fooled, don’t respond.
Subject: Intellectual propety rights(TO CEO)
Dear CEO,
We are the domain name registration organization in Asia, which mainly deal with international company’s in Asia. We have something important need to confirm with your company.
On the August 11 2008, we received an application formally. One company named “Tianwei Holdings Limited Company” wanted to register following
Internet Trademark: {your trademark here}
Domain names:{your domain names here}
through our body.
During our auditing procedure we find out that the alleged “Tianwei Holdings Limited Company” has no trade mark, Intellectual property, nor patent even similar to that word. we found that the keywords and domain names applied for registration are as same as your company’s name and trademark. one point need you to confirm: whether this alleged “Tianwei Holdings Limited Company” is your business partner or distributor in ASIA. if so, we will complete their registration. These days we are dealing with it.

Recieved the following this morning, guess it is same just worded a little different:

I have just received the same email dated Nov 6. All worded the same as yours Chris. The ip addresss that it was sent from is Chinese.
Almost certainly a scam.
I had an indentical one today. The email address was email hidden; JavaScript is required.
On the Nov 7, 2008, we received an application formally. One company named “Muyee Investment Corp” applied for the “xxxxxxxxxxxx”
as their trademark for the promotion of their product on the internet(Internet trademark).
After our initial examination, we found that the Internet trademark applied for registration are as same as your company’s name and trademark.
These days we are dealing with it.Currently we stop their application, in order to deal with this issue better,we hope to get your confirmation.

HAHA… they try to do the same to me, for my site. http://www.electroniccigarettesource.com they told me that there are companies trying to register my domain name etc. and get into the Electronic Cigarette
industry. These people are really good. This scam will end up making a lot of money in the long term.
They are still at it. I got two like this today, with read receipts requested (denied!), to my company’s “info@” address from “fiona [email hidden; JavaScript is required]”. I have educated Google’s spam filter, through which email to my address passes. “Ecologcoat company” seems fictitious or is unrelated.
